We have an inquisitive nature, that’s part of why we started working with CBD. If you do too, please read these frequently asked questions below. We hope they give you a better understanding of what CBD is and what it can do for you. If you don't see an answer to your question please contact us at [email protected]
What is CBD?
CBD stands for Cannabidiol, which is a naturally occurring non-psychoactive (meaning it does not produce any mind-altering effects) cannabinoid found in the hemp plant, cannabis sativa. CBD comprises a significant portion of the cannabis sativa plant and is one of over 100 active cannabinoids contained in the plant. CBD is fast becoming the most researched and studied cannabinoid due to its well-known therapeutic effects.
CBD itself contains a variety of natural cannabinoids that interact with our bodies via the endocannabinoid system (ECS), a part of our central nervous system which helps keep us in homeostasis. Homeostasis is an internal state of equilibrium that allows for optimal functioning of our bodies, which in turn helps stave off disease. Our endocannabinoid system (ECS) helps regulate everything from pain and inflammation to anxiety and sleeplessness.
THC is probably the most famous compound in hemp for the high it causes, but CBD does not bind with receptors in your brain that get you high like THC does, so you get the wide range of benefits that CBD is known for, without the high.
What is full-spectrum CBD?
Full-spectrum refers to CBD that contains all the cannabinoids that naturally occur in the hemp plant. This also means that a miniscule amount of THC (up to 0.3%) is included, but the resulting CBD is non -psychoactive and 50-state legal as long as it is industrial hemp-derived. The main benefit to using full-spectrum CBD is the "entourage effect," whereby the 100+ active cannabinoids work together to amplify the therapeutic effects CBD is known for. Because of this effect, full-spectrum CBD allows you to benefit from hemp as nature intended, with all the natural cannabinoids in the plant working together synergistically on your behalf. We chose to offer full-spectrum CBD in several of our products because we believe they would be most beneficial for your health and well-being in those applications.
What is isolate CBD?
Isolate CBD is exactly what it sounds like, the CBD molecule is isolated and there is no other cannabinoid present. This means there is zero THC as well, which is especially important to customers who are concerned about drug testing. Our vegan CBD infused fruit chews are made with isolate CBD, and are a great alternative for those wanting pure CBD with zero THC and no worries about drug testing.
What is water soluble CBD?
If you were to pour oil droplets into a glass of water, you would notice they do not mix. Now, apply this same logic to absorbing CBD oil into our bodies, which are made up of 60% water. That would not mix well either, and we may not be able to benefit as much from the CBD as we should. This has led to the development of water soluble nanotized CBD, which is up to 10 times more bioavailable than more commonly found forms due to the smaller particle size. We use this type of CBD and the water soluble nature helps both in absorption and allows for quick and efficient transport into the body. When you consume typical forms of CBD, you are usually only able to absorb around 5-10% of the CBD, which means up to 95% of it is excreted out of the body as waste. Our water soluble nano-encapsulated CBD has a much higher absorption rates and is therefore much more effective.
Does CBD get you high?
CBD does not get you high! Both THC and CBD are cannabinoids (chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant), but they act very differently when consumed. THC gets you high because it binds to a cannabinoid receptor in your brain that triggers the psychoactive effects of cannabis. CBD is different, while it is an active cannabinoid, it does not bind to the same receptors THC binds to. Instead, CBD works by regulating various molecular pathways throughout the body via the endocannabinoid system (ECS). These pathways are responsible for the anti-anxiety effects, regulating inflammation, pain perception, and appetite suppression, among many others. Simply put, CBD doesn’t get you high because it doesn’t bind to the receptors in your brain that are responsible for getting you high.
Is all CBD the same?
As we like to say around here, not all CBD is created equal! Because CBD itself isn’t regulated by the FDA yet, the market is largely unregulated as well. This means anyone can make CBD products and claim they’re legitimate. The problem is, not all CBD products are high quality, and because of this they don’t always offer the therapeutic effects CBD is known for. When purchasing any CBD products it’s extremely important to make sure third-party lab testing results are readily available, we provide these results for your peace of mind. Transparency is key when it comes to CBD.
Is Lanai Hemp’s CBD tested by a third-party laboratory?
Yes! And our latest lab results are available on our website 24/7, please visit our 'Lab Results' page. This is the first thing to look for when purchasing any CBD product. Without a third party lab testing report, you really have no way of confirming what’s in a product or if it’s safe to use.
Is CBD safe?
When CBD is sourced from high-quality industrial hemp cultivated in rich soil under favorable growing conditions (like ours!), it’s considered safe and non-toxic. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) put out a report in November 2017 showing that CBD doesn’t contain any adverse health effects and is well tolerated in both animals and humans. Despite the excellent safety profile of CBD, we recommend speaking to your doctor and/or pharmacist before you start taking CBD as drug interactions are possible.
Is CBD legal?
Yes, industrial hemp-derived CBD that contains 0.3% or less THC is completely legal in all 50 states, that is why Lanai Hemp exclusively uses this kind of CBD. With the passage of the Farm Bill in December 2018 CBD was federally legalized throughout the United States.

How do I consume CBD?
For CBD tinctures, absorb under your tongue for 30-60 seconds. For our vegan CBD infused fruit chews simply eat like a normal gummy. For our RDTs (Rapid Dissolve Tablets) place under your tongue and allow the tablet to dissolve.
What’s the ideal CBD dosage?
There isn’t a “one size fits all” dosage for CBD, and there will be some trial and error while gauging your proper dosage. As with most substances, individuals with more body mass will require more CBD to experience its effects. A good rule of thumb to determine your proper CBD dosage is to take 1–6mg of CBD for every 10 pounds of body weight based on your level of pain or other symptoms. We recommend a daily dose to experience the full impact of CBD. Keep a journal and track your results, this way you can meter in more CBD as needed until you find your individual sweet spot.
Is a bigger dose of CBD necessarily better?
Not necessarily. Everyone has a different individual sweet spot when it comes to CBD, which is why it’s recommended to start out with the lowest possible dose and work your way up to the amount of CBD that works for you. Keeping a journal to track your progress is a good idea and will help you pin down your sweet spot quickly.
Will CBD show up in a drug test?
Anyone taking industrial hemp-derived CBD should be aware that even the miniscule amount of THC present in any full-spectrum CBD product (0.3% or less) could show up in a drug test. Full-spectrum CBD is made with the entire hemp plant and does contain trace amounts of THC. We also offer products with CBD Isolate (such as our vegan CBD infused fruit chews) which contain zero THC and can be a good alternative to those concerned about drug testing.
How does CBD work with the body?
From humans to animals, we all have an endocannabinoid system (ECS) as a part of our central nervous system. This extensive network of receptors and chemicals is found throughout the entire body and helps to maintain balance and homeostasis of our vital systems. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for regulating several vital bodily functions including sleep, pain perception, mood, memory, reproduction, appetite, and inflammation. It is believed that when the endocannabinoid system becomes depleted, it can lead to illness and disease as you are no longer in balance or homeostasis on a biological level. Research indicates, however, that taking CBD can replenish as well as generate more of our natural endocannabinoids, thus restoring balance to body and mind.
Does science support the benefits of CBD?
The recent rise in popularity of CBD has led to a significant amount of research to back up subjective claims. There are several preclinical research studies, as well as clinical human studies that support the benefits of CBD. While more clinical studies are needed, there is an extremely wide body of scientific evidence that supports the benefits of CBD. Due to the current popularity of CBD there are many studies in progress which will provide further insight on how CBD helps support our health and well-being.
Will CBD help my condition?
It would be irresponsible for us to make claims that CBD could help your specific condition. There are many studies regarding CBD and various health conditions, please do your research and speak to your doctor if you have questions regarding CBD and a specific condition. What we do know is CBD has therapeutic effects across a wide range of conditions and more are being discovered all the time. We also know CBD has no known side effects on its own and is 100% natural. Please do your homework and discuss with your doctor before trying to treat any specific condition with CBD.
How do you know how much CBD is in your products?
Our products are third-party lab tested to show the potency of CBD they contain, these results are then uploaded to our website's 'Lab Results' page so they are accessible 24/7. We use cutting-edge testing to ensure that our products contain what we expect and are safe for you to consume.
What other cannabinoids are in your CBD?
